The Bala Cranberry Festival proudly distributes four scholarships to worthy students in the Township of Muskoka Lakes and one to Town of Bala Youth.
The Orville Johnston Memorial Scholarship
The Orville Johnston Memorial Scholarship is available to any resident of the Bala area, who would like to further his or her education at the post secondary level on either a full or part time basis. Applicants should submit a 250 word essay explaining the applicant's record of community involvement and why the applicant believes that he or she deserves to receive the scholarship. Applications should be accompanied by a photocopy of the registration form from the post-secondary institution to which the applicant has applied and confirmation that the applicant has been accepted. The Isaac Taylor Memorial Scholarship
Isaac Taylor, a long-time resident of Bala and community leader died this Spring. He served as Chair of the Cranberry Festival and his many hours of volunteer work have made Bala a better place. This Scholarship honors him.
The Isaac Taylor Memorial Scholarship is available to any resident of the Bala area who would like to advance her/his education at the post-secondary level on a full or prt-time basis. Applicants should submiot a 250 word essay wxplaining how the applicant has demostrated Leadership, Community Involvement and Caring for others. Applications should be accompanied by a copy of the registration form of the post-secondary institution which has accepted the student. Deadline for applying is June 30.
The Bala Jewitt Youth Scholarship
The Bala Jewitt Youth Scholarship is awarded to students imediately pursueing their post secondary education. This scholarship is open to students from the Bala Area. Applicants should submit a 250 word essay, explaining the applicant's record of community involvement and why the applicant believes that he or she deserves to receive the scholarship. Applications should be accompanied by a photocopy of the registration form from the Post Secondary institution to which the applicant has applied and confirmation that the applicant has been accepted. Deadline for application is June 30.
The Performing Arts Scholarship
The Performing Arts Scholarship is awarded to deserving youth who are pursuing enhancement in the performing arts. Applicants must be from the Muskoka Lakes Township and be registered and pursuing enhancement of their art of choice and must possess At least two years experience in that discipline.
Scholarship is open for ages 12 years to 20 years of age.
The Bala Cranberry Festival Sports Scholarship
The Bala Cranberry Festival Sports Scholarship is offered to athletes who satisfy the following criteria:
- Athlete must be registered and accepted into a competitive program which is at a higher level than the one which the applicant has presently attained.
- The athlete must be from Bala and area.
- The athlete must use the scholarship money only for sport registration and/or equipment needed for the next level of training.
- Evidence of registration acceptance must accompany the application.
- Scholarship is open for ages 12 years to 20 years of age.
