Bala Cranberry Festival Receives Top Awards
Mark your calendars!
This year's festival is october 14 - 16
The Bala Cranberry Festival - taking place October 14 - 16, 2016 - is gushing after receiving provincial and international recognition as a top attraction on the festival circuit.
Earlier this year, the Bala Cranberry Festival was named as one of the Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario, a distinguished list that honours Ontario's festivals and events that excel within the industry. The selections are made by an independent panel of judges, and our beloved festival about a cranberry was listed alongside other top events such as the Niagara Wine Festival, the Toronto Jazz Festival, and Kitchener - Waterloo's Oktoberfest.
The awards have continued to come in - this time on an international stage - with the Festival recently being named one of the Top 15 Most Delectable Harvest Festivals in the World. Muskoka's largest festival went toe to toe with other famed celebrations including the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival, the National Apple Harvest Festival in Biglerville, and the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival in Newchurch.
These distinctions are nothing new for the Bala Cranberry Festival, but they certainly show how far the festival has come since its humble beginnings. Started in 1984 by a group of dedicated volunteers in order to extend the tourist season, they certainly have been able to accomplish just that. In the 32 years since its inception, the Bala Cranberry Festival has welcomed just over half of a million people. Not bad for a small town of 700!
